Money matters & Teenagers!
Cash App, Apple Pay, Bank Accounts, Cash... teens don’t care as long as they have some money to spend! Uhm, that’s not entirely true... Your children value and care about money in response to how you manage and value money. Financial accountability is taught and a HUGE part of parenting. The value of money and financial accountability starts at an early age while parenting. Money management and access to money should be shared and taught through modeling and sharing knowledge with your children about how money works. Living expenses can add up... Providing a comfortable lifestyle for your child starts with a mindset. First, decide to create a “home” for your child. It doesn’t matter if you live in a two- bedroom apartment or a 5-bedroom house. A home is filled with love and support. A house is only a structure. Invest in your child’s future. Create a savings account for your child. Start with placing ten dollars a month in a savings account. This will add up in no time. In five years you and your child will have tangible fruit of being consistent. Set your child up to walk in financial wealth. You could also create a family change jar, where you place all loose change for school events, like book fairs, school fees, school pictures, etc. With teenagers, I started them all with Bank savings accounts really young then added a checking account when they became teenagers. We also use green light card. The green light card is used for monthly allowance and also offers a saving option for your child. Check out this link for more information on Green Light Card: https://www.greenlightcard.com/ This is not an add or sponsored. When you have your child create a monthly budget it teaches your children how to manage money and self- discipline. Giving your child a small allowance for chores teaches children about having a strong work ethic and encourages consistency of reaping harvest when they put forth the effort and work. In a future blog, I will share tips on how we navigated through finding jobs and spending their own money for big purchases like cars and electronics... Repeat these both below. Confession: “The choices I make today leads to the life I will live tomorrow. I choose to live life more abundantly.” Say this prayer: Lord, thank you for the financial blessings. Thank you for provision to provide and leave a legacy for my children. Give me wisdom in budgeting and how to obtain our financial wealth and to be a good steward over what I already possess. Cover my mind when making financial decisions. Remind me to continue to seek you in every decision towards financial freedom and wealth for my children.
